It’s common knowledge that swimming is a good way to exercise, which is one reason swimming pools are good for your health. Just 30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise can decrease your risk of chronic illness. But swimming pools aren’t just for swimmers. For non-swimmers, swimming pools can still provide valuable health benefits in the form of water-based exercise and the therapeutic benefits of water.

Who Benefits from Water-Based Exercise?

According to research in the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehab and Prevention, most people enjoy water-based exercise more than land-based exercise. The low-impact nature of exercising in water means you can exercise longer without additional wear and tear on muscles and joints.

Swimming pools offer health advantages for all types of people:
  • Older Adults. For many older adults, joint pain makes running, cycling, and other land-based exercises difficult. Swimming pool exercises like water aerobics or water yoga can help with cardiovascular health, flexibility, and endurance.
